Off a tough 33-28 loss to Unity last Friday night, the Monticello Sages return home to host Pontiac in week 7 Illini Prairie Conference high school football tonight.
Monticello had a shot at the win as they were driving with under 90 seconds to play. Despite a late fumble that ended the drive and the game, head coach Cully Welter says his team took a huge step forward against a Unity team that he thought was one of two teams that could've won the conference this year.
The next two weeks, Monticello takes on two solid 4A programs in Pontiac and then Prairie Central. Entering the week 4-2, Coach Welter is focused on getting his team to their fifth win to qualify for the playoffs.
