Monticello Rolls Mt. Pulaski

Four players scored in double figures and Monticello rolled past Mt. Pulaski 79-49 in non-conference high school girls basketball action from Monticello High School Thursday night.

 

Renni Fultz scored a team-high 21 points. Lizzie Stiverson added 14 points, Hannah Swanson added 13 points, Chloe Clark scored 11 points and Olivia Swanson chipped in with 10 points. 

 

The Lady Sages shot 19-for-26 from the foul line led by Stiverson’s 8-for-10 effort. 

 

Freshman Alexis Wade scored a game-high 22 points for Mt. Pulaski and the Lady Hilltoppers struggled against a smothering Lady Sages defense that held them to just 15 second-half points.

 

The two sides played an even back-and-forth first quarter with Monticello leading 23-17 after the first eight minutes but the Lady Sages opened up a 46-32 halftime advantage and led 66-38 after three quarters.

 

Monticello forced a running clock with five minutes to play.

 

The Lady Hilltoppers drop to 1-4 overall. The Lady Sages improve to 3-4 overall. They will take on Central A&M Monday and host Urbana at home next Thursday.
