Maroons Drop 7th Place Contest at Monticello Holiday Hoopla Despite Hickman's Double-Double

Zeke Hickman’s double-double was not enough for Clinton to pick up a win at the Monticello Holiday Hoopla tournament as the Maroons dropped a 53-50 contest to Oakwood in the 7th place game at Monticello High School.

Hickman’s game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds paced the Maroons but was not enough late.

A Hickman 3-pointer with 4:08 to play brought the Maroons within two, 48-46. After a Comets free throw extended the lead to three, Hickman answered with a layup and Tyrese Petty’s basket with 2:25 to play gave the Maroons the lead 50-49 but the Maroons could not take advantage of opportunities to put the game away late and Oakwood escaped with the win.

Petty added 12 points. Clayton Welch scored six points and dished out a game-high eight assists.

Brevin Wells paced the Comets with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Clinton edged Oakwood on the glass 29-27 and the Maroons had 14 assists on their 20 made field goals.

However, Clinton turned the ball over 15 times and Oakwood turned that into 16 points.

The Maroons also went 6-for-22 from distance and made 42-percent of their field goal attempts.

The Maroons are 4-12 overall.
