Monticello Outlasts Maroa-Forsyth in Girls Basketball Regional Action

Lizzie Stiverson was fouled as time expired in overtime with the score tied at 60 and stepped up and sank a walk-off free throw as Monticello outlasted Maroa-Forsyth 61-60 in overtime in Class 2A girls basketball quarterfinal regional action Monday night from Maroa-Forsyth High School.

 

Stiverson scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, knocking down jumpers, layups and free throws late to propel her team that battled foul trouble in the second half.

 

Cloe Clark scored 13 points, Jayna Burger and Hannah Swanson scored nine points apiece and Renni Fultz added eight points. 

 

The Lady Trojans featured four players in double-figures. Hallie Mitchell led the way with 15 points. Allie Robinson sank two free throws with five seconds left in overtime to tie the score at 60, she finished with 13 points. Tatum Young scored 11 points and Erin Vandevoorde scored ten points.

 

The Lady Trojans finish their season at 13-18 overall.

 

The Lady Sages improve to 13-16 and will take on top-seeded Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin Wednesday night at 6 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
