Monticello Holds Off Champaign St. Thomas More

The Monticello Sages outlast Champaign St. Thomas More 76-71 track meet in Illini Prairie Conference boys basketball action from Monticello High School Tuesday night. 

 

Ryan Reeder scored 18 of his team-high 19 points in the second half to help propel Monticello to their second straight win and second win in the Illini Prairie.

 

The Sages led 16-13 after the first quarter but STM rallied to a 38-36 advantage at the intermission. An 18-12 third quarter staked Monticello to 54-50 lead after three quarters and the Sabres could not get closer than two in the fourth quarter as the Sages made enough plays and free throws to close out the win.

 

Briggs Fultz scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Garrett Kepley had 11 points and eight rebounds. Jake Edmondson scored ten points off the bench.

 

Dawson Magrini scored a game-high 26 points and Patrick Quanstrom added 15 points. Averi Hughes scored eight points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for STM and Parker Jackson added nine points in the defeat.

 

The Sabres are no 12-14 overall and 1-5 in the Illini Prairie. Monticello improves to 14-11 and are 2-4 in league action.
