Illinois State (1-2) scored three runs in the top half of the ninth inning en route to a 4-2 win at Little Rock (2-1) Sunday afternoon. The win marks the first for the Redbirds in the 2020 campaign after they dropped the weekend's first two matchups.
Kyle Soberano was 2-for-4 and Ryan Hutchinson drove in two runs for the Redbirds.
Sean Sinisko pitched five and two-thirds innings of two-run ball. He struck out two and walked none. Brady Huffman picked up the save with a clean ninth inning.
After falling behind 2-0, a sacrifice fly by Hutchinson scored Aidan Huggins in the sixth inning to make it 2-1.
The Redbirds scored three runs in the ninth, two of which came on a bunt single by Hutchinson and a throwing error by the Trojans on the play. Jake McCaw drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Redbirds will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for a four-game set with Oklahoma beginning with a 3 p.m. contest Friday.
