Illinois State Salvages Series Finale with Oklahoma, Drops 3 of 4 on Weekend

Illinois State (2-6) scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 7-4 victory over No. 23 Oklahoma (7-2) Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader. The Sooners took the first game of the afternoon, 3-2, after the Sooners took a Friday double-header. 

 

Joe Butler was 2-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the Redbirds offense, including a grand slam home run in the third inning. Braedon Blackford, who went back-to-back with Butler, was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. 

 

Jack Anderson went 3 1/3 innings on the mount as the starter for ISU. He allowed three runs and struck out one. Michael Sebby and Derek Salata each pitched two scoreless innings of relief. 

 

With the redbirds up 5-4, Aidan Huggins added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, scoring Butler. Blackford scored on a wild pitch later in the frame to make it 7-4.

 

The Redbirds will be back in action at 4 p.m. Friday at Louisiana-Monroe in the first game of a three-game series.
