The high school boys basketball postseason opens tonight across the state and in Riverton, the nightcap of quarterfinal action will feature two former Okaw Valley rivals headed in two different directions.
The Clinton Maroons will come into the 2A regional quarterfinal matchup against Monticello as the tenth seed and losers of nine straight and 17 of their last 18 dating back to the Monticello Holiday Hoopla.
Meanwhile, the Sages are winners of six straight.
Monticello enters play 18-11 overall and rebounded with four straight Illini Prairie Conference wins to finish 5-4 in league play after starting their conference slate 1-4.
Clinton finished the regular season 5-25 overall and 1-6 in the Central Illinois Conference.
Monticello rolled Clinton 56-18 back on January 14 at Monticello High School.
The winner of tonight's matchup takes on Riverton Wednesday night at 7 pm.
