Monticello Athletic Director Hopes Having Sports Back Gives Us a New Appreciate

Perhaps having high school sports back in Illinois will grow the appreciation for their impact on our kids and their lives.

That is the hope for Monticello Athletic Director Dan Sheehan who says for 12 years he's been with high school athletes as they grow, fail, and get up and try again. He hopes the year we lost of high school sports will grow the appreciation we have for them.

This week should provide more clarity on how the seasons will be broken down going forward but Sheehan speculates competitions could get back up and go as soon as February 1.

According to Sheehan, a lot of responsibility now shifts to the student-athletes and for them to be responsible during the seasons. He indicates any region that falls back out of Phase 4 will have to fall back the old guidances on sports.

Sheehan says there is a lot of logistics to be worked out in terms of schedules, getting officials lined back up and then how the issue of spectators will be broken down. The IHSA is scheduled to meet tomorrow.
