Monticello Gets By Warrensburg-Latham

After falling behind 3-0 on the first possession of the game, Monticello scored 16 straight unanswered points and beat Warrensburg-Latham 57-39 in non-conference boys basketball action from Monticello High School on Saturday evening.

 

Dylan Ginalick helped fuel the rally scoring seven points in the first quarter and the Cardinals went 7 minutes and 31 seconds between baskets.

 

After falling behind 24-11 with 3:04 left in the half following another 3-pointer from Ginalick, Warrensburg-Latham answered with a 9-2 run and trailed 28-20 at the intermission.

 

Jackson Cooke started the second half with a three to bring the Cardinals to 28-23 but the Sages outscored Warrensburg-Latham 18-5 the rest of the way, fueled by eight points from Ben Cresap and 14 points off turnovers. 

 

Monticello held on the rest of the way despite Warrensburg-Latham getting to 48-35 with 5:38 to go. 

 

Ginalick scored 17 points to lead all scorers with 13 points coming in the first half. Cresap finished with 14 points and 12 in the second half. 

 

Monticello scored 42 points in the paint and scored 31 points off 24 Cardinals turnovers. 

 

Joey Sprinkle grabbed a game-high nine points. 

 

Cooke scored nine points to lead Warrensburg-Latham.

 

The Sages improve to 5-1 overall while the Cardinals drop to 4-5.
