Dylan Ginalick made two free throws with 15 seconds to play and Monticello overcame Tolono Unity on the road for a 40-38 win over Tolono Unity in Illini Prairie Conference boy’s basketball action from Tolono Friday night.
Ginalick scooped up a loose ball at mid-court out of a Unity timeout as the Rockets were looking to hold for a final shot.
Ben Cresap made two free throws with 1:41 left that gave Monticello a 38-36 lead. Nate Drennan, who was a thorn in the side of the Sages all night, scored on a putback after a missed shot by Blake Kimball to tie the score.
Unity started the third quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 27-22 lead then finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 33-28 lead to the fourth.
Drennan led all scorers with 23 points.
Ginalick led Monticello with 13 points and Cresap finished with 10 points.
The Sages improve to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the Illini Prairie.
