Illini Beat Writer Weighs In On Big Ten 'Title', Tournament

Should Illinois be dubbed 'Co-Big Ten Champ'? Will Illinois play on national TV Sunday afternoon for the conference tournament championship?

Illini beat writer at the Champaign News-Gazette Bob Asmussen says the debate over regular-season 'co-Big Ten champs' with Michigan is a fun debate for fans but believes the there are bigger things to worry about, like this weekend's Big Ten tournament and then the NCAA tournament which tips off next week.

As Illinois gets set to open the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis Friday night taking either Rutgers or Indiana, Asmussen believes the Illini have a great chance to be playing Sunday afternoon in front of a national audience ahead of the selection show.

This year's NCAA tournament will be played exclusively in Indiana and the round of 64 will tip off on Friday, March 19 rather than its traditional spot of Thursday, and the round of 32 will wrap up Monday, March 22.
