Monticello Blanks St. Joseph-Ogden

Monticello spread the football around and sent its seniors out with a memorable victory with 43-0 win over St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday afternoon in Illini Prairie Conference football action to wrap up the 2021 pandemic shortened football season. 

 

Joey Sprinkle hit seniors Chris Brown, Hayden Graham, and Jason Brown for touchdowns and connect with Tristan Foran as a part of a four-touchdown performance to wrap up his season which saw tremendous improvements.

 

Sprinkle finished 10-for-18 with 128 yards through the air and had 35 yards rushing on four carries. 

 

Chris Brown finished with 68 yards and a touchdown on the ground and two receptions for 14 yards with a five-yard score.

 

Jason Brown caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to put Monticello up 8-0 in the first quarter. Graham hauled in a 45-yard score early in the third quarter to make the score 29-0. He finished 70 receiving yards on four receptions.

 

Senior Kolton Knuffman (kuh-nuff-man) finished with eight carries and 31 yards with a leaping 1-yard touchdown run to make the score 43-0 in the fourth quarter.

 

Additionally, senior Hunter Williams caught two passes for 15 yards and senior Bryant Spencer hauled in two catches for 14 yards.
 

Monticello finishes the pandemic season 6-0. This was the Sages' third shutout in its last four games. 

 

Junior Keaton Nolan carried it 22 times for 61 yards as the Spartans finish their season 2-4 and was without several key contributors.

 

Monticello Coach Cully Welter now turns his attention to the track and field squad.
