Illinois State Falls Short in Bid for Weekend Sweep Sunday

Jack Anderson and Jake McCaw led the Illinois State baseball team in a 2-1 loss against Missouri State as the program celebrated Senior Day on Sunday at Duffy Bass Field. 

 

Anderson threw six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs while striking out four. McCaw had three hits, including a double and a triple to lead the offensive efforts for Illinois State (21-30 overall, 11-13 Missouri Valley Conference). 

 

The Redbirds got the lead-off batter on in the final four innings but were unable to scratch across the tying run. 

 

Sean Sinisko fired a complete in game two, fanning six batters while limiting MSU to five hits as the Redbirds won 4-3 on a walk-off error in game one and 3-1 in game two on Saturday at Duffy Bass Field. McCaw launched a home run in game two to lead the Redbird offensive attack. 

 

Colton Johnson moved into 7th in school history with 231 career strikeouts after recording five strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits, and one earned run and the Redbirds took down Missouri State, 4-2. ISU received a key solo home run by freshman Ryan Cermak en route to snapping its six-game losing streak. 

 

Illinois State is scheduled to face Bradley for a three-game series over May 20-22.
