EIU's Dandy Conference Defensive Back of Week, Newcomer of the Week

Eastern Illinois junior defensive back Russell Dandy picked up a pair of weekly Ohio Valley Conference honors on Sunday as the league announced its weekly awards.

Dandy was named both the OVC Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week following his performance in the Panthers non-conference game on Saturday at Murray State.

Dandy was responsible for all three turnovers gained by the Eastern Illinois defense as he had two interceptions including one in the endzone that turned away a Murray State touchdown.

He finished with seven tackles (all solo) with a tackle for loss.   On his tackle for loss, he forced a fumble that he would recover on the play.

It marked the second straight week that EIU has had a player win OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors after Jordan Miles won last week for his efforts at Tennessee Tech.

Dandy has 21 tackles for the season and his two interceptions rank him 41st in the FCS and third in the OVC.

EIU heads into a bye week before back-to-back home games on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 against UT Martin and Tennessee State.  EIU currently sits in first place in the OVC standings with a 1-0 conference mark.
