After their sixth straight win last Friday night over Rantoul, the Monticello Sages flipped places this week with IC Catholic for No. 2 in the latest Class 3A high school football state rankings.
Wilmington received five first-place votes in this week's poll to remain No. 1 while IC Catholic collected eight first-place votes.
Monticello, Tolono Unity, and Williamsville round out the top five for the poll. Byron, Farmington, Princeton, Montini and Benton round out the 3A top-10.
Class 1A saw quite a shake-up. Lena-Winslow is the unanimous No. 1. Carrollton leap-frogged Abingdon for No. 2, who tied Camp Point Central for No. 3. Camp Point Central dropped a spot this week. Forreston rounds out the top 5.
Brown County and St. Bede flipped places at 6-7, respectively. Winchester West Central moved up a spot to No. 8, Central A&M moved up to No. 9 and Ottawa Marquette is new to the poll this week at No. 10.
Decatur St. Teresa remains No. 1 in the 2A poll with 11 first-place votes. Breese Mater Dei received the other two first-place votes. Tri-Valley, Maroa-Forsyth and Bismarck-Henning all moved up spots in the latest poll to round out the top-5.
Pana separated itself from Knoxville to stand alone at No. 6 and Knoxville came in at No. 7 while Clifton Central moved up to No. 8 from No. 10 last week and newcomers to the poll, Athens and Vandalia round out the top-10 in 2A.
The 4A Poll remained the same 1-4 with Joliet Catholic the unanimous No. 1 followed by Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, Richmond-Burton and St. Francis. Kewanee was a big mover this week up to a tie at No. 5 from No. 8 last week. Genoa-Kingston moved up into a tie for fifth with Kewanee from No. 7 last week. Chicago Phillips dropped to No. 7 after its second loss of the season last Friday. Coal City dropped from No. 6 to No. 8 while newcomers Stillman Valley and Peoria Notre Dame round out the top-10.
In 5a, Rochester received 10 of 12 first-place votes to stay at No. 1. Fenwick remains No. 2 with a first-place vote followed by Mascoutah at No. 3. Morris and Sterling were big movers this week into the top five. Morris received a first-place vote and checks in at No. 4 from No. 7 last week while Sterling moved up to No. 5 from No. 9 last week.
Mahomet-Seymour was also a big mover in the latest 5A poll, up to No. 6 from No. 10 last week. Providence and Peoria who were tied for fourth last week dropped to No. 7 and No. 8, respectively and Glenbard South and Marion were newcomers to this week's poll and round out the top 10.
East St. Louis received 11 of 13 first-place votes in the 6A poll to remain No. 1 while Cary-Grove received the other two first-place votes to remain No. 2.
Normal Community moved up a spot to No. 7 in the 7A poll. Brother Rice is No. 1 again this week.
Loyola is the unanimous No. 1 in this week's 8A poll.
The high school football season enters the final third of its regular-season schedule this week.
