Monticello Down Another Spot Despite Big Win Friday in Latest 3A Poll

Despite overcoming the elements of consistent rain Friday and shutting down the Prairie Central prolific run game Friday in a 12-0 win in Fairbury, the Monticello Sages are down a spot in this week's 3A high school football rankings as the postseason looms starting next week.

Monticello was jumped by Mt. Carmel for 8th in this week's rankings, leaving Monticello at No. 9. Reed-Custer and Durand tied for tenth. IC Catholic jumped Wilmington for the top-ranking in this week's poll. The inexplicable shuffle of the 3A top five continued as Byron jumped Williamson after Friday wins. Unbeaten Tolono Unity, whose baffling drop in the poll to fifth after Monticello lost two weeks ago, remains fifth in the latest poll.

Princeton and Farmington are sixth and seventh, respectively, this week.

Decatur St. Teresa holds down the top spot in 2A followed by Breese Mater Dei, Tri-Valley, Bismarck-Henning, and Pana.

Athens, who beat Maroa-Forsyth Friday night, jumps to sixth this week followed by the Trojans, Knoxville, and Johnston City, and Vandalia tie for ninth to round out the 2A top ten.

The 1A top ten remains nearly unchanged. Carrollton is the top team this week. Abington and Lena-Winslow traded places for second and third, while Camp Point Central and Fulton round out the top-five, their same rankings from a week ago.

Forreston, Ottawa Marquette remains in place at sixth then seventh. St. Bede moved up a spot from ninth to eighth, Aurora Christian moved up to ninth from tenth and Toledo-Cumberland joins the top ten for the first time this season.

Central A&M dropped out of the rankings this week.

Joliet Catholic is the unanimous No. 1 in 4A. Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin remained at No. 2. Peoria Notre Dame moved up to eighth from tenth this week. Stillman Valley stayed at No. 9 while Breese Central joins the 4A rankings for the first time this week.

Rochester is the unanimous No. 1 in 5A. Mahomet-Seymour saw a big jump up to No. 4 from No. 6 last week. Peoria moved up from No. 7 to No. 5 this week. Morton dropped from the rankings.

Washington re-enters the Top 10 of the 6A poll at No. 10 this week. East St. Louis is the top team again this week.

In 7A, Normal Community remains steady at No. 7. Batavia is the top team in this week's 7A poll.

Loyola is the unanimous No. 1 in 8A.

The high school football playoffs get started next week.
