First High School Basketball State Rankings Released Wednesday

The first high school basketball state rankings were released Wednesday.

 

In Class boy's Class 1A, Yorkville is No. 1 followed by the Central Illinois Confernce's Meridian Hawks at No.2. South Beloit, Peoria Christian and Fulton round out the top-5.

 

Steeleville, Liberty, Champaign St. Thomas More, Aurora Christian come in 6-through-9 and Tuscola and Augusta Southeastern tied for tenth in the first poll of the season. Warrensburg-Latham did not make the top ten but did receive four votes this week.

 

In 2A, powerhouse Chicago Orr comes in No. 1 followed by DePaul College Prep at No. 2 with Breese Central, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin and Macomb rounding out the top-5. 

 

Clark at No. 6 received a first place vote. Teutopolis checks at No. 7 in the first poll with Nashville and Chicago Leo tying for eighth while St. Joseph-Ogden is No. 10 this week.

Not making the top 10 but receiving votes in the poll this week were Prairie Central, Monticello and El Paso-Gridley. 

 

Class 3A, powerhouse Chicago Simeon is No. 1. Hillcrest, Peoria Notre Dame, East St. Louis and Lake Forest round out the top-5. Peoria Notre Dame and East St. Louis received first-place votes in the poll this week.

 

Rock Island and Harvey Thornton are 6-7, respectively. Chicago Marian Catholic and Rockford Boylan tied for eighth with Centralia coming in No. 10 this week. Springfield High, Springfield Lanphier and Decatur MacArthur received votes in this week's poll.

 

In Class 4A, Glenbard West is the No. 1 team in the state. Powerhouse Chicago Whitney Young and Kenwood are 2-3. Glenbrook South and Chicago Curie tie for No. 5. New Trier is No. 6 this week while Normal Community and Chicago St. Rita tied for seventh in the first poll. Bolingbrook and Moline round out the top-10.

 

In the girl's poll, Brimfield is the No. 1 team in 1A. Winnebago is No. 1 in 2A. Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond is No. 10. Fieldcrest and St. Joseph-Ogden received votes in the 2A poll. 

 

Peoria Central is the No. 1 team in 3A followed by Morton at No. 2 and Metamora is No. 6 with Peoria Notre Dame tying Providence for No. 10 in the poll. Mahomet-Seymour, Lincoln and Washington received votes this week. 

 

In Class 4A, Hersey is the top team in the first poll of the year. Normal Community is No. 8.
