Monticello Uses Balanced Scoring, Tenacious Defense to Down Williamsville

Monticello held Williamsville scoreless in the first quarter and used another tenacious defensive effort to shut down the Bullets in a 49-28 rout of the third Sangamo Conference opponent of the season from Monticello High School's Sievers Center Tuesday.

The Sages jumped to 10-0 lead after the first quarter and despite getting Monticello to its sixth team foul with 2:06 to go in the first quarter, the Bullets did not shoot a free throw in the first half and trailed 24-8 at the intermission.

Monticello's excellent passing and balanced scoring was too much for Williamsville most of the night.

Dylan Ginalick overcame first half foul trouble to lead all scorers with 10 points. Ben Cresap scored nine points, Joey Sprinkle added eight points and Trevor Fox finished with six.

Will Ross grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Cresap hauled in with six boards and Sprinkle had five.

Fox was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro Player of the Game as he helped lead the Sages defensively and had four assists to zero turnovers.

The Sages dished out ten assists and only committed nine turnovers. They shot 46-percent from the floor and scored 26 points in the paint and had 10 second-chance points on eight offensive rebounds.

The Sages are now 5-0 and will travel to Maroa-Forsyth on Saturday afternoon for a 4:15 pm contest.
