Monticello Rallies Past Mt. Zion

The Monticello Lady Sages rallied in the second half to beat Mt. Zion 33-32 in non-conference girl's high school basketball action from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School Thursday night.

Leading 17-12 at the intermission, the Lady Braves started the second half with four straight points to open their biggest lead 21-12 but it was all Monticello the rest of the way.

Hannah Swanson hit a three to tie the score at 23 late in the third quarter.

She'd come up with another big three late in regulation to give the Lady Sages 31-27 lead.

After a turnover, Mt. Zion got within 31-29 but Rennie Fultz made two free throws to make it 33-29.

Sophomore Denver Anderson made a quick three at the top of the key to cut the deficit to 33-32 with 3.5 seconds but the Braves failed to stop the clock by fouling as the Sages imbounded and sealed the victory.

Lizzie Stiverson led Monticello in scoring with 12 points. Swanson finished with seven points and despite battling first-half foul trouble, Fultz finished with six points.

Mt. Zion's Anderson led all scorers with 14 points.

The Lady Sages improve to 8-1 overall and the Lady Braves drop to 2-8.
