Monticello Pulls Away from Greenville

The Monticello Sages pulled away from the Greenville Comets for a 72-44 victory Saturday night in the second game of a twin bill from Greenville High School in non-conference boy's basketball action.

 

Greenville led 14-9 with 2:17 to play in the first quarter but it was all Monticello after that. Ben Cresap hit a three with 1:07 left, Dylan Ginalick made a three with 32 seconds left to pull ahead 15-14 after the first.

 

The Sages used a 23-12 second quarter to open up a big halftime lead and gradually pulled away the rest of the way, leading by 30 at one point in the fourth quarter to trigger a running clock.

 

Ben Cresap scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed a co-team-high seven rebounds and dished out five assists.

 

Dylan Ginalick finished with 13 points, Joey Sprinkle added 12 points and grabbed six rebounds while Tanner Buehnerkemper finished with ten points and seven rebounds.

 

Thomas Swartz was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro player of the game finishing with seven points. 

 

Monticello turned Greenville over 14 times for 20 points and scored 38 points in the paint. 

 

The Sages scored 17 points in transition. They dished out 22 assists on 29 field goals and turned the ball over only five times.

 

Greenville was led by Landon Moss' 16 points.

 

The Comets lost both games of its tournament and drop to 5-5.
