Monticello Holds Off Warrensburg-Latham

In a game heard on WEZC, the Monticello Sages used a big second-quarter and held on in the second half for a 54-36 win over Warrensburg-Latham in non-conference boy's basketball action from Warrensburg-Latham High School Tuesday.

 

The led 11-6 after the first quarter and opened a 28-15 lead at halftime but the Cardinals picked up the defensive intensity in the second half played within a double-digit deficit most of the rest of the way and the Sages made free throws late and took advantage of aggressive defense to score easy baskets to put the game away.

 

Trevor Fox led the Sages in scoring with a career-high 14 points. Dylan Ginalick scored 13 points, Joey Sprinkle added 11 points and Ben Cresap scored 10 points. 

 

Sprinkle and Cresap grabbed six boards apiece.

 

Jacob Sarver scored 11 points to lead Warrensburg-Latham and Jacob Six added ten points.

 

The Sages outrebounded the Cardinals 24-17. 

 

Trison Foran had three steals and four assists off the bench and was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro Player of the Game.

 

The Cardinals drop to 10-2 overall.

 

Monticello improves to 10-0 overall and will be back in action for a doubleheader next Monday when they open Holiday Hoopla play at Monticello High School taking on Neoga at 11:30 pm followed by Clinton at 7:30 pm.
