Monticello Blows By Clinton

As heard on a special simulcast broadcast on WHOW and WEZC, Monticello shut out Clinton in the second quarter blew by the Maroons 62-24 in the second game of the first day at the Monticello Holiday Hoopla high school boy's basketball tournament from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School.

 

The 17-0 quarter helped Monticello rotate in its juniors throughout the game. In 19 minutes, Ben Cresap led all scorers with 14 points. Trevor Fox continued his stellar play finishing with 10 points. 

 

The Sages defense held the Maroons to a 19-percent shooting percentage and just 6-for-27 from distance. 

 

Monticello outrebounded Clinton 40-21 and turned the Maroons over 10 times for 17 points off turnovers. Scoring 36-points in the paint, Monticello shot a 52-percent clip for the game.

 

Mason Walker led the Maroons with 10 points. Brooks Cluver was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPor Player of the Game for Clinton.

 

Cresap won his second straight award for Monticello.

 

Clinton falls to 4-10 overall and is 0-for-2 in Hoopla pool play. They'll finish pool play taking on Neoga Tuesday at 2 pm. 

 

Monticello is now 12-0 and can clinch a spot in the tournament championship game with a win Tuesday over GCMS. Game time is 3:30 pm and can be heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
