Balanced Attack Helps Maroa-Forsyth Overcome Big Game from Mt. Pulaski's Murphy at Decatur St. Teresa Holiday Tournament

Lane Muprhy scored 38 points for Mt. Pulaski but it wasn't enough as Maroa-Forsyth used balanced scoring to get by the Hilltoppers 70-62 for third place at the Decatur St. Teresa Holiday Tournament Wednesday night in high school boy's basketball action.

 

Murphy scored 20 of his 38 points in the first half and went 10-for-11 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.

 

The Hilltoppers led 32-31 at the half but the Trojans flipped the game on its head with a big third quarter and led 59-45. Egan Franzen scored 11 of his 31 in the third quarter. Kaiden Maurer scored nine of his 15 points in the third for the Maroa-Forsyth. 

 

Franzen helped keep the Trojans close early with 12 of its 18 points early, staking Maroa-Forsyth to an 18-17 lead after one. 

 

The Trojans managed just one field goal in the final frame but Mt. Pulaski couldn't find the basket either with only three field goals. The Hilltoppers outscored Maroa-Forsyth 17-11 in the fourth quarter. The Trojans finished 9-for-12 at the foul line in the fourth to the Hilltoppers 11-for-13 free throws. 

 

Murphy's 38 points were complemented by 12 points from Aiden Schneider, the only other player in double figures. 

 

Franzen led the Trojans with 31 points, Maurer finished with 15 and Zane Giles added nine.

 

The Hilltoppers fall to 4-3 overall while Maroa-Forsyth goes to 8-4. 

 

Mt. Pulaski takes on Raymond-Lincolnwood on Tuesday night at 6 pm. 

 

Maroa-Forsyth is at Olympia next Tuesday night at 7 pm.
