The Clinton Lady Maroons used stingy first half defense and never allowed Warrensburg-Latham to score in double figures in a quarter rolling to a 47-23 semifinal win in the Central Illinois Conference high school girl's basketball tournament from Tuscola High School Tuesday night.
The Lady Maroons led 8-3 after the first quarter and the Lady Maroons opened up a 20-5 lead at the break. A big third quarter propelled Clinton to a 37-14 lead after three quarters.
Kaitlyn Rauch led all scorers with 18 points and Mallory Cyrulik added 14 points while MaKayla Koeppel and Heidi Humble each scored six points.
Brooke Oakley led the Lady Cardinals with 10 points.
The Lady Cardinals drop to 16-10 overall. They will play Meridian for third place in the conference tournament Thursday night at 6 pm.
The Lady Maroons move to 24-4 overall.
