Monticello Gets By Rantoul

Monticello shot 61-percent from the floor and got by a pesky Rantoul team for a 70-50 win Tuesday night in Illini Prairie Conference boy's basketball action from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School.

 

Ben Cresap led the Sages in scoring with 21 points, Dylan Ginalick added 17 points and Triston Foran came off the bench for 10 points as the Sages scored 46 points in the paint and added 16 points off 18 Eagles turnovers. 

 

Cresap and Trevor Fox each had three steals, Tanner Buehnerkemper grabbed a team-high six rebounds wile Cresap grabbed five boards for the Sages.

 

Monticello shot just 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.

 

Freshman Conner Smith came off the bench and scored 21 points to lead Rantoul. All 21 of Smith's points were from beyond the arc as he shot 7-for-9 from distance. The Eagles as a team went 10-for-18 from distance, allowing them to keep the game at a respectable deficit throughout the second half.

 

Rantoul drops to 0-26 on the season and 0-6 in the Illini Prairie Conference. 

 

Monticello is now 22-3 overall and is 6-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference.

 

The Sages are off until Saturday evening when they take PORTA from the Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference Shootout at Maroa-Forsyth High School. Game time Saturday is 6 pm and can be heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com.
