Monticello Pulls Away from PORTA at Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference Shootout

Ben Cresap scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half, Dylan Ginalick scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half and Monticello pulled away from the PORTA-AC Blue Jays in the second half to win 57-45 in the Illini Prairie/Sangamo Conference Shootout from Maroa-Forsyth High School Saturday evening.

 

The Sages led 24-23 at the intermission and after Cole Roberts tied the game at 28 with 4:12 to play in the third quarter, Monticello went on a 10-0 run over the next 1:26 highlighted by a pair of Ginalick three-pointers. 

 

Gavin Arthony opened the fourth quarter with a three and brought the Blue Jays to 41-35 but it was Monticello the rest of the way. 

 

Cresap's 21 led all scorers and Ginalick added 17 for Monticello. The Sages were outrebounded 25-24 but scored 18 points off 12 turnovers. They shot 50-percent from the floor and scored 24 points in the paint.
