Monticello Gets By Champaign St. Thomas More

Monticello held Champaign St. Thomas More scoreless for the first 7 minutes and 15 seconds and pulled away for a 48-28 win Friday night in Illini Prairie Conference high school boy's basketball game from the Sievers Center at Monticello High School. 

 

Ben Cresap scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter and Joey Sprinkle led a strong rebounding effort for the Sages who controlled the glass 25-11. 

 

Monticello shot 55-percent from the floor and scored 24 of its 48 points in the paint. The Sabres shot just 37-percent from the floor, 4-for-11 from distance and went just 2-for-7 from the free-throw line.

 

Dylan Ginalick scored 11 points. Tanner Buehnerkemper scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds. 

 

Monticello had 12 assists on its 18 field goals.

 

The Sabres had a six-game win streak snapped, dropping to 17-12 overall and 5-3 in the Illini Prairie Confernce. 

 

The Sages have won its last five to move to 25-3 overall and 7-1 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
