Off a thrilling, come from behind 55-51 overtime victory over Prairie Central Friday night to capture a Regional title, the Monticello Sages boy's basketball team heads north to Clifton Central High School to take on Herscher tonight in sectional semifinal action.
The 29-3 Sages trailed most of the game Friday night, including a four-point deficit with under a minute to play but a four-point possession off a missed free throw followed by a three-pointer that tied the game reversed the fortunes of the Sages as they were able to overcome a very poor performance through the first three quarters from the free-throw line.
Herscher enters action tonight 24-8 overall and beat Beecher 43-34 to take its first Regional in a decade.
The winner of tonight's game matches up against the winner of Wednesday night's game between St. Joseph-Ogden and El Paso-Gridley Friday night in a Sectional final.
Game time tonight from Clifton Central is 7 pm and can be heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
