Illinois State 1B McCaw Named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week

Illinois State junior Jake McCaw has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after his performances at Western Carolina, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Bloomington native led the Redbirds with five hits over 11 at-bats (.455) as the 'Birds swept WCU. McCaw blasted three home runs to center field (the first Redbird to homer in three-straight games since Collin Braithwaite in 2018), recording eight RBIs and eight runs scored.

McCaw added two walks and two HBPs for a .563 OBP, swiping two bases and recording a sacrifice fly. He was perfect in the field with 30 putouts and an assist.

The Redbirds have already surpassed their total MVC weekly awards received in 2021 as fifth-year junior Jared Hart was named MVC Pitcher of the Week last week. McCaw was First-Team All-MVC in 2021 but had not previously won an MVC weekly award.

Illinois State heads to Arkansas State from March 4-6 for a three-game series.
