Illinois Baseball Falls Short Against Kansas Sunday, Finishes 1-2 at Cambria College Classic

The Illinois baseball team fell 10-7 to Kansas on Sunday to finish the Cambria College Classic at U.S. Bank Stadium. Justin Janas had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Illini.

Illinois (3-6) went 1-2 on the weekend with a win over No. 25 West Virginia on Saturday. Cam McDonald was the Illini's best bat of the weekend, going 5-for-11 with a double, homer and three RBIs.

Kansas (4-6) won the game on Caleb Upshaw's three-run homer to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 7-7 tie. The game featured five lead changes, including Illinois leading on three occasions.

Branden Comia gave Illinois its last lead on an RBI single to right field in the sixth to make it a 7-6 game, as the Illini held that lead into the bottom of the seventh before Kansas tied it up on a fielder's choice. Janas provided the Illini with their biggest hit of the day, a two-out, three-run triple to left center field that flipped a two-run deficit to a one-run lead in the fourth inning.

Illinois' home opener is scheduled for Tuesday at Illinois Field against Eastern Illinois. The Illini then travel to Western Kentucky for a three-game series next weekend.
