The Monticello Sages boy's basketball team will look to punch its first ticket to the State Finals since 2017 tonight when they battle Bloomington Central Catholic from the Springfield Supersectional in Class 2A high school boy's basketball action.
The Sages held off El Paso-Gridley 51-46 Friday night to take home the Clifton Sectional title.
The Sages matchup with the Saints tonight is the third Illini Prairie Conference opponent Monticello will face in this postseason run and guarantees the Illini Prairie will be represented in Champaign later this week for the state finals.
Monticello and BCC matched up in Bloomington on January 14 with Monticello coming away with a 65-54 victory. The Saints are 20-15 coming into tonight's action while the Sages are 31-3 overall and will put an 11-game win streak on the line tonight.
Since that January matchup, BCC is 13-5 while Monticello is 13-2.
The Saints had to get by Auburn and Quincy Notre Dame in Sectional play to get to tonight's matchup with Monticello. Before Monticello held off EP-G Friday, the Sages rallied past Herscher Tuesday night.
The winner of tonight's action battles Rockford Lutheran or Rockridge Thursday afternoon from the State Farm Center in Champaign.
