Illinois State Falls in Weekend Rubber Match With Indiana State

Illinois State baseball scored first but fell the in the series rubber match at Indiana State, 5-2, on Sunday at Bob Warn Field.

 

Illinois State (10-11 overall, 1-2 MVC) got solo home runs from Jonathan Sabotnik and Nick Gile but the Sycamores (15-8 overall, 2-1 MVC) scored two runs in the 4th and three runs in the 5th inning to take control of the game.

 

Sabotnik homered to right field in the 2nd inning to give the 'Birds a 1-0 lead but the Sycamores scored twice in the 4th inning to lead, 2-1.

 

Gile led off the 5th inning with a solo shot to left-center to tie the game before Indiana State scored three times with two outs in the 5th inning.

 

Illinois State generated just two base runners in the final four innings.

 

The Redbirds lost the series opener Friday but bounced back to win on Saturday. 

 

Illinois State is scheduled to host Illinois on April 5 at 5:00 p.m. CT before heading to Western Illinois on April 6.
