Mt. Zion Capitalizes on Monticello Miscues in Monday Win

In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Dakota Harrison was terrific across seven shutout innings and the Mt. Zion Lady Braves took advantage of numerous Monticello miscues in an 8-0 win in non-conference high school girl's softball action Monday at Monticello High School.

 

Harrison struck out 11 Lady Sages batters and allowed just six baserunners on four hits and hit a two-run home run in the first inning. 

 

Monticello committed eight errors. Reece Patton started in circle for Monticello and going two innings and allowed five runs, but two were earned. Macey Hicks replaced Patton to start the third inning and finished allowing three runs and zero earned runs. 

 

The Lady Braves had seven hits as a team. Harrison finished 3-for-4 to pace the offense with two RBIs and a run scored. Audri Johnson finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Jolie Schafer drove in a run with an RBI base hit in the fifth inning.

 

Monticello center fielder Hannah Uebinger was the Piatt/DeWitt County ServPro Player of the Game for her efforts in the field, including a putout at third base in the sixth inning. 

 

Monticello drops to 4-3 overall and Mt. Zion moves to 5-3.

 

The Lady Sages host Olympia Thursday. The next WEZC Sages sports broadcast comes Thursday when the boy's baseball team hosts Olympia at 4:30 pm.
