HS Softball: Decatur St. Teresa Outslugs Clinton

A late rally by the Clinton Lady Maroons softball team fell short as Decatur St. Teresa outslugged Clinton 11-9 in Central Illinois Conference high school girl's softball action Tuesday in Clinton.

Like the boy's baseball game, the Tuesday matchup was set to be played in Decatur but rain south of Clinton forced the game to Clinton High School for the afternoon.

Heidi Humble was a triple short of the cycle to pace the Lady Maroons offense which came alive for ten hits, five of those extra-base hits.

Humble finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs on a double and home run with four runs scored. Chloe Griffin finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Brooke Reeves walked in a pair of runs and scored a run. Morgan Fortune and Kate Koebel each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Fortune had an RBI. Alaina Soberalski drove in a pair for the Lady Maroons Tuesday.

Freshman Jalie Eller led the Lady Bulldogs with a big afternoon. She finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. She was a home run short of the cycle for St. T.

Joleigh Kostenski drove in three and Karley Harris had two RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.

With the win, St. T moves to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the Central Illinois Conference.

The Lady Maroons drop to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Clinton returns home Thursday hosting Sullivan. You can hear the action on The Big 1520 AM/92.3 FM/106.5 FM WHOW and online at dewittdailynews.com.
