Monticello Topples Decatur St. Teresa

Joey Sprinkle capped a ten strikeout performance on the mound with a mammoth three-run home run in a five-run sixth inning and Monticello got by Decatur St. Teresa 9-2 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference high school boy's baseball action from Millikin University in Decatur.

 

The game was shifted to Millikin after a half-an-inch of rain fell in central Illinois Tuesday night. 

 

St. T went up 2-0 right off the bat in the first inning but the Sages rallied with three in its half of the first and led 4-2 after two innings with a run in the second.

 

Sprinkles three-run home run capped a five-run sixth inning that put Monticello comfortably in ront 9-2. 

 

Sprinkle struck out ten in five innings of two-run ball. He walked one and allowed three hits. Spencer Mitze and Jack Buckalew tossed and inning of scoreless relief apiece.

 

The first four hitters in the Sages lineup each had two hits. Sprinkle finished 2-for-4 with his three-run home run and an RBI double. Biniam Lienhart finished 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Jacob Trusner finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Triston Foran was 2-for-3 with and double, two runs scored and an RBI. 

 

Thomas Swartz was 1-for-2 with a two-run single.

 

Tylor Bundy and Foran each had stolen bases.
