Maroons Fall To Shelbyville In CIC Baseball

In a game heard Tuesday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Maroons fell to Shelbyville 5 to 1 in CIC Conference play.

A few too many Maroons errors, and a few well placed Shelbyville bunts proved to be the difference in what otherwise was a defensive and pitcher's duel.

The Rams plated an unearned run in the first, and then a sac fly in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead.  The Maroons answered in the bottom of the second with a lead off single by Dominic Thayer. He later scored on a Peyton Cross groundout.  From there, both teams struggled to find answers at the plate until the top of the 7th.  Shelbyville called and executed back to back bunts to lead off the inning. They'd use that pressure to eventually score three runs in the inning.  The Maroons were unable to rally in the bottom of the 7th as they did Monday.

Clinton's Jaxson White took the loss in his first start of the season; throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned on 9 hits with a strikeout and two walks.  The senior was named the Serv-Pro of Piatt & Dewitt County Player of the Game.

At the plate, Clinton was led by Thayer's 1 for 3 with a run scored, and Wes Harrold went 1 for 3.  The Maroons only mustered two hits, and also committed four charged fielding errors.

Shelbyville's Ethan Clark picked up the complete game win.  The lefty threw a gem; only allowing one run on two hits with no walks, and 8 strikeouts.  The Rams improve to 10-1 overall, and 3-0 in the CIC.

Clinton falls to 2-4 overall, and 2-3 in conference.  The Maroons travel to Warrensburg-Latham on Friday.

Our next Clinton Sports Broadcast on WHOW comes up Monday afternoon at 4:30 when the Lady Maroons play host to Meridian.
