Jacob Trusner's three-run home run in the third inning was all the offense Monticello's pitching needed as Joey Sprinkle pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning in a Sages 3-1 win over Mattoon in non-conference high school boy's baseball action Tuesday in Monticello.

Trusner's hit scored Sprinkle and Triston Foran. 

Sprinkle struck out six in 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He walked two and allowed six hits. Spencer Mitze relieved Sprinkle and closed the game out allowing an unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Sprinkle and Trusner each finished 1-for-2 and Foran was 1-for-4. Eli Craft was 2-for-2.

Monticello drew five walks on five hits.

The Sages have won two in a row after a brief two-game skid and are 10-4. They travel to Tolono Unity tomorrow to resume Illini Prairie Conference action.
