Illinois State Downs Iowa

The Illinois State baseball pitching staff allowed a mere four hits in the Redbirds' 3-2 win at Iowa on Tuesday evening at Duane Banks Field.

Sophomore Greg Nichols delivered the big blow of the game, a two-RBI double in the 3rd inning for the Redbirds (18-22 overall).

Nichols laced a two-RBI double into left-center to give ISU a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning before the Hawkeyes tied the game in the bottom of the frame.

The teams traded a trio of scoreless innings prior to an infield single from freshman JT Sokolove in the 7th inning. Sokolove beat the play at first base, but the throw got away, allowing sophomore Kayden Beauregard to score all the way from first base.

Junior Kolton Scherbenske escaped a one out, first and third jam in the 8th inning before giving way to junior Jared Hart, who record his second save.

Illinois State will travel to Evansville against the MVC-leading Purple Aces in a weekend series from May 6-8.
