Illinois Topples Indian State

The Illinois Fighting Illini beat Indiana State Tuesday night 6-3.

Jacob Campbell and Cam McDonald led the Illini at the plate, driving in a combined three runs while both tallied hits in the win.

Campbell opened up the scoring with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning, scoring Danny Doligale to put Illinois (23-19, 12-6) in front. Indiana State (22-14, 7-5) scored runs in the second and third innings before the Illini put up a combined five runs in the fourth and fifth.

The two teams totaled just six hits each on the evening. The Illinois pitching staff allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven. RHP Ryan Kutt is credited with the win and moves to 2-2 on the season, while Indiana State's Cutts (2-2) gets the loss. Tommy Green earned his third save of the season, entering in the ninth inning to sit down the Sycamores in order.

It was the second matchup between the two with the Sycamores taking the first matchup last month.

Illinois returns to Illinois Field on Friday evening for the opening game of a three-game series with Miami (OH).
