Illinois Sweeps Miami (OH)

Illinois Fighting Illini baseball completed the sweep of Miami (OH) with a 6-2 win at Illinois Field Sunday afternoon. 

 

Ryan Kutt entered the game in relief of Jack Crowder, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three. At the plate, Cam McDonald extended his on-base streak to 56 games in his second at bat, just one shy of tying Ben Troike's Illinois record of 57. McDonald went 2-for-4 on the afternoon while also driving in two runs. Danny Doligale, Branden Comia, and Brody Harding each registered two-hit games on the afternoon.

 

Miami jumped on the board first with runs in the first and third innings before the Illini responded with a five-run fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Illinois added one more run in the bottom of the eighth to take 6-2 lead into the final inning.

 

Ryan Kutt earns the win to improve to 3-2 on the season while Miami's McLean drops to 1-1 with the loss. Tommy Green earned his fourth save of the season, entering with two outs in the ninth inning to record the final out of the game.

 

With the win, the Illini improve to 26-19 (12-6 B1G) while Miami is now 19-29 (14-18 MAC). This weekend marks the third series sweep of the season for the Illini.

 

Illinois returns to Illinois Field next weekend and is back to Big Ten play, hosting Nebraska for the final home series of the season before traveling to Penn State (May 19-21) to wrap up the regular season slate.
