HS Baseball: Monticello Rolls Rantoul

On Senior Day at Monticello High School, it was the Sages four seniors that led the way in an 11-1, ten-run rule, five-inning win over Rantoul in Illini Prairie Conference High School boy's baseball action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com Tuesday afternoon at Monticello High School.

 

Senior Dawlton Chupp worked through control issues to strike out eight across four one-run innings. Chupp struck out the leadoff man to start the game but then walked three straight before getting a strikeout and flyout to center field to end the inning.

 

Senior Triston Foran played exceptional defense with three putouts and threw a scoreless inning to close out the win. He started a double play on a comebacker to the mound to end the game. Foran also was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored with a double.

 

Senior Joey Sprinkle was 0-for-3 but reached base twice on errors and scored two runs. 

 

Senior Thomas Swartz was 1-for-3 but reached base three times. 

 

Biniam Lienhart reached base four times. He was hit by a pitch twice, walked, and reached on an error. He scored twice.

 

Luke Teschke finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. 

 

The Sages four seniors shared the Piatt/DeWitt County Player of the Game award.

Rantoul falls to 2-16 overall. Monticello moves to 17-7 and finishes the Illini Prairie slate 6-4. 

 

The Sages have three regular-season matchups remaining before starting postseason play next Thursday afternoon at Tolono Unity taking on Westville in Regional semifinal action. Hear next Thursday's action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
