HS Baseball: Clinton Downs Meridian

Dom Thayer went the distance striking out 14 and Clinton downed Meridian 9-1 in Central Illinois Conference high school boy's baseball action from Meridian Wednesday afternoon.

Thayer followed an exceptional pitching performance Tuesday by Mason Walker and for the second straight game, a Maroons pitcher went the distance helping preserve arms and pitch counts heading to postseason play starting next week.

Thayer allowed a run, one hit, and walked five in facing six batters over the minimum Wednesday.

Brooks Cluver, Payton Cross, and Walker each had three hits apiece.

Cluver finished 3-for-4. Walker was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Cross was 3-for-4 with a double and Wes Harrold drove in a pair of runs going 2-for-3 for Clinton.

The Maroons get back to .500 at 7-7 overall and move to 7-6 in the Central Illinois Conference.

The Maroons wrap up the regular season at home Friday hosting Warrensburg-Latham and begin Regional play at Olympia next week.
