HS Softball: Lady Maroons Tame Broncos In 2A Regional Opener

In a game heard Monday afternoon on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons topped the Cerro Gordo-Bement Broncos, 7 to 1, in Class 2A Regional softball action.  
 

Clinton jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first two innings, and never trailed.  
 

The Lady Maroons were led by the Serv Pro of Piatt Dewitt County Player of the Game - Ashley Armstrong.  The junior pitched seven innings for the win, only allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts and no walks.  Armstrong also went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in.  

 

In addition, the Maroons saw Heidi Humble go 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored. Alaina Soberalski also went 2 for 3 with an RBI. 
 

Serena Throneburg took the loss for the Broncos.  She gave up 7 runs on 10 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.  CGB committed six errors in the game.  The Broncos season ends at 1-21. 
 

Clinton improves to 4-19 on the year.  They advance to take on Maroa-Forsyth Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 at Illinois Wesleyan University. Hear all the action on all WHOW platforms!
