Monticello Blows By Westville

Monticello started fast and never looked back rolling to a 14-3 ten-run rule, five-inning win over Westville in Class 2A Regional semifinal action from Tolono Unity High School Thursday afternoon. 

 

Drew Wichtowski homered in the top of the first inning for the Tigers but it was all Monticello after that.

 

Triston Foran doubled in Biniam Leinhart in the Sages half of the first inning and then Jacob Trusner brought in Foran with a sac-fly RBI to put Monticello up 2-1.

 

Foran doubled in two more in the bottom of the second inning, Joey Sprinkle drove in Foran on a base hit and Colton Vance capped the five-run inning with an RBI double. 

 

Sprinkle would double in another run, Trusner brought in a run with a hit, and Vance capped the four-run third with another run-scoring hit.

 

The Sages capped its offensive outburst with another three-run inning capped by back-to-back doubles by Jack Buckalew and Thomas Swartz. Buckalew's double scored two.

 

Leinhart was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Foran was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Sprinkle was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Trusner was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Buckalew was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Vance finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. 

 

Luke Teschke threw four innings of three-run ball. He struck out eight and walked three. He also hit two batters.

 

There were seven hit batters in the game.

 

The Tigers end its season at 19-11 overall and the Sages move to 20-8.
