HS Softball: BCC Topples Monticello to Take Home Regional Title

In a game heard on WEZC and at dewittdailynews.com, the Bloomington Central Catholic Lady Saints overcame a fast start by Monticello to take home a Regional title 10-3 in Class 2A Regional championship action Friday from Monticello.

Lizze Stiverson hit a two-run home run to right center field to cap a 3-0 start for the Lady Sages before an out was recorded but BCC's Emily York settled down and allowed only five base runners the rest of the way.

The Lady Saints scratched a run across in the third inning and tied the game on a two-run double by Izzy Campbell in the third inning.

Summer Clark started the fourth inning with a home run to left field to put BCC in front for good at 4-3. The Lady Saints would add three more runs in the frame. They rallied to score three more runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.

Monticello had chances to extend its lead. In the third inning, Addison Wallace started the inning with a single. Lizzie Stiverson hit a high drive to right center field for a second time but because center fielder Clark looked like she had a play, Wallace could only wait between first and second and made it to third on the Stiverson double.

York reitred the next three batters to evade the threat. In the fourth inning, Catie Swartz doubled to start the inning but again was left stranded in scoring position. Swartz would add another bloop single in the sixth inning with two outs.

York allowed three runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and a walk.

Stiverson's efforts earned her the ServPro of Piatt/DeWitt County player of the game. She finished 2-for-3 with the two-run home run and a double.

Addison Wallace was 2-for-4 and Marrissa Miller was 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Swartz finished 2-for-3.

The Lady Sages finish the season 11-14 and BCC advances to the Maroa-Forsyth Sectional next week.
