HS Baseball: Monticello Beats GCMS To Win Regional

Jack Buckalew struck out nine and threw five innings of one-run ball leading Monticello to a 11-1 five-inning, ten-rule win over GMCS and took home a Regional Championship Saturday morning from Tolono Unity.

 

Buckalew allowed a run on three hits and a walk. 

 

Each Monticello starter reached base led by Joey Sprinkle who finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Biniam Lienhart, Triston Foran, and Jacob Trusner each drove in two runs apiece. 

 

Foran tripled in the bottom of the third inning that drove in two. Sprinkle brought Foran home on the next at-bat with a base hit to left field.

 

Colton Vance started the fourth inning with a base hit to left field. Tylor Bundy and Luke Tecshke drew back-to-back walks. Two batters later, Sprinkle drove in two more with a ground-rule double and Trusner singled in a run on the next at-bat. 

 

The Sages would score seven runs in the fourth inning. 

 

Up 10-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Foran reached third on a three-base error in right field and Joey Sprinkle grounded to shortstop on the next at-bat and Foran slid under the throw to the plate and Monticello walked away with the ten-run rule win.

 

Ty Cribbett hit a lead off home run for the Falcons to start the game. 

 

The Falcons finish the season 17-9 overall.
