Decatur Eisenhower Football Hoping to Show They Are Ready to Compete

DaJuan Johnson has been around the Decatur Eisenhower football program for many years and understands what it takes to build the program.

Coming into the 2022 fall football season, Coach Johnson is very encouraged by the fall 2021 season and then the offseason. He explains they were young in almost every aspect from the coaches on down.

For Coach Johnson, this summer was about teaching kids about football and helping them understand the game, what it takes to be successful, and working with individuals in a one-on-one capacity. While many teams filled up the summer with a 7-on-7 schedule, Coach Johnson says they did most everything internally.

Coach Johnson says the summer taught him that his team is much better than he thought. He also found out that his team is very close and hopes that will be something that other student-athletes gravitate towards.

As the season gets started this week, he is hoping more kids will come out as he continues to work to build the program but while a lot of teams will dive right into the workouts and X's and O's, he will take time the first few days to connect with the families of his players and let everyone know about the football schedule and expectations.

Coach Johnson says his players have a high motor. He notes his emphasis this year will be about allowing his kids to fly around the field, hit, and have fun. He is aiming to have a well balanced team this year and hopes to send the message that his team is ready to compete.
