Monticello needs just one win to qualify for the postseason but it's going to be a tough road ahead for a Sages squad that has been up and down this season when things kickoff tonight hosting Paxton-Buckley-Loda in Illini Prairie Conference action in week 7 of the high school football season.
The Sages have won two in a row and four of its last five games after convincing back-to-back wins over Pontiac and Rantoul.
The Sages routed Rantoul 55-0 last week.
PBL, meanwhile, will be looking to get back on its winning ways after a tough home loss to Prairie Central last week, 51-8. The Panthers upset Monticello last year by intercepting a pass in the end zone late in the game, preserving a one-point lead for a 16-15 win in Paxton.
PBL has been in-and-out of the top 10 Class 3A rankings this season and last week's defeat, the first of the seaosn for 5-1 PBL, knocked them out this week.
The next two Sages opponents, Prairie Central and Tolono Unity, are ranked in the top 10.
