Monticello Falls Short At Mt. Carmel

Blayne Sisson scored on a ten-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game and that was the only score Mt. Carmel needed as they held off Monticello 8-6 in a first-round high school playoff matchup Class 3A high action.

The Golden Aces never found the end zone again and the defense did just enough to keep the Sages at bay most of the afternoon.

Monticello's only touchdown was a five-yard shuffle pass from Drew Sheppard to Spencer Mitze in the fourth quarter. The Sages could not convert the two-point conversion and Mt. Carmel ran out the clock from there.

The game-ending play was an 11-yard screen pass from Sisson to Gage Kennard on a 4th and one with under two minutes left.

Sisson battled through an ankle injury in the second half to finish with 135 yards rushing and the touchdown. Andrew Gillihan had 61 yards receiving on five receptions for the golden aces.

Tylor Bundy led the Sages with 81 yards on 14 carries for the Sages.

Monticello finishes the season 5-5 overall.

Mt. Carmel moves to 9-1 overall and will battle Tolono Unity in Tolono next week in a rematch of last year's 3A semifinal matchup.
